After several operations following his helicopter accident, Alan filmed the BBC series Last Chance to See in New Zealand with Stephen Fry and Mark Carwardine. He continued to work on shows like The Chelsea Flower Show and Gardeners World Live, and on Channel Five's The Gadget Show and completed filming in the Canadian Rockies and Pacific coast, reunited with Ray Mears, for Ray Mears' Northern Wilderness but was forced to retire from filming due to his injuries.

Alan was awarded The Guild of Television Cameramen's Certificate of Merit in "recognition of his outstanding contribution to the art of the television cameraman"on Ray Mears Bushcraft series, "Aboriginal Britain" in 2005

Alan was also awarded a Certificate of Merit for Madur Jaffrey's Flavours of India in 1995.
